Thanks so much to Utilita Energy for taking part in our training sessions recently, helping staff learn the dangers of loan sharks and how to spot when someone might be in debt to one.Not being able to pay household utility bills is often an early sign that someone is struggling financially.It is vital that the right questions are asked at this stage to establish what the issue is and what support that person needs.Sometimes the root cause can be that someone is in debt to a loan shark, and if that is the case, people can be referred to Stop Loan Sharks England for specialist help and support.An incredible 44 members of staff took part in five training sessions, and it seems our messages really struck a chord.Here is some of the feedback we had: 📢 “…able to give additional support to all customers and signpost correctly…”📢 “…know the signs on what to look out for moving forward…”📢 “It’s made me more aware that loan sharks can be anybody and that anybody could be a victim. The Financial Conduct Authority has released new figures today showing that while things are improving, millions of people are still struggling financially.Last year a third of the people supported by Stop Loan Sharks England said the reason they borrowed from a loan shark was to meet everyday bills and costs.If anyone is struggling in this way, illegal money lenders are not the answer.
