A 65-year-old woman was jailed for 39 months today after admitting acting as a loan shark while helping her son supply drugs.Carole Low pleaded guilty to illegally lending money between 2018 and 2025.This case shows how illegal lending can often be linked to all sorts of other criminality, such as drug dealing. Two loan sharks who targeted vulnerable members of the Thai community have been sentenced by a crown court judge today.Christopher Bates and Salujkit Rudchat were each handed suspended jail terms after the court heard they pressured and intimidated borrowers.Loan sharks often take advantage of the vulnerable by pretending to be a friendly face offering a favour.
