Glenda the Lender had a fantastic time at #daltontogether, teaming up with Bradford District Credit Union to help raise awareness about the dangers of illegal lending and how to borrow safely. It was great to see such a strong turnout at the DRAM Community Centre – including local councillors! If you're facing unexpected costs or finding it hard to manage day-to-day expenses, you may find yourself being offered a quick loan from someone who seems helpful. But loan sharks are anything but friendly - their offers of help come with serious risks.Instead, consider turning to a credit union like BDCU. They offer safe borrowing options with your best interests at heart.Check out a few snaps from the day bel#communitysupportp#financialeducationa#stoploansharksenglandgland ... See MoreSee Less

We know how stressful it can be making sure your child has everything they need — from uniforms to supplies, it all adds up.

💡 You could get help:
✅ Check with your local council — some offer grants for uniform costs
✅ Ask the school — they may be able to assist

What is a loan shark?

If you can answer yes to one or more of these questions you might be borrowing from a loan shark:

  • Did they offer you a quick loan?
  • Did they appear to be a friend at first, but now you're not so sure?
  • Did they say there was no need for any paperwork?
  • Did they add extra charges or huge amounts of interest to your loan?
  • Have they threatened you?
  • Are you scared of people finding out?
  • Have they taken your bank card, benefit card, passport, or other valuables from you?

What happens after you report?

We will be with you at every step of the way. Our investigators work alongside our Liaise Officers. They will get you the one to one support you need.

After you report our investigators take the information you give us and start to gather a case against the illegal lender

How we help

Stop Loan Sharks investigate, prosecute and put loan sharks in prison. We are the only organisation in England who have the power to stop loan sharks and illegal money lenders.

Since 2004, we have supported over 32,500 people to get safely away from loan sharks.
