Reporting a loan shark in confidence
You can call our team 24/7 on 0300 555 2222 to report a potential loan shark. We take every call seriously and in 100% confidence. Our secure online reporting form is also available to report illegal money lenders to us.
You do not have to give us your name if you don’t feel safe to do but it will help us to investigate the loan shark if you give us a telephone number or email address so we can contact you – at a time to suit you – for more details about the illegal lender.
Check to see if your lender is legal
The Financial Conduct Authority has information on all people or businesses that legally lend you money in the UK. Search their database to see if your lender is legal. Call us on 0300 555 2222 if you think you are borrowing from an illegal lender.
Who we are
We are the England Illegal Money Lending Team, also known as Stop Loan Sharks. Our specialist team of investigators and LIASE officers work together throughout the country to stop loan sharks lending illegally and to prosecute them. If you live in Wales or Scotland your national teams are available 24/7 for you.
