Glenda the Lender had a fantastic time at #daltontogether, teaming up with Bradford District Credit Union to help raise awareness about the dangers of illegal lending and how to borrow safely. It was great to see such a strong turnout at the DRAM Community Centre – including local councillors! If you're facing unexpected costs or finding it hard to manage day-to-day expenses, you may find yourself being offered a quick loan from someone who seems helpful. But loan sharks are anything but friendly - their offers of help come with serious risks.Instead, consider turning to a credit union like BDCU. They offer safe borrowing options with your best interests at heart.Check out a few snaps from the day bel#communitysupportp#financialeducationa#stoploansharksenglandgland ... See MoreSee Less

What an amazing day at Northfield Beach today! So many families came out to enjoy the sand and fantastic activities. This free event, organised by Northfield Community Partnership, kicked off today with No Sharks at the Beach Day – well, except for one . . . 🦈Sid the Shark was out and about, posing for selfies, playing in the sand, and (thankfully) not scaring the little ones! 😂The 360° Aqua Dome outdoor cinema was a huge hit too, showing fun beach and shark-themed films all day long! The summer extravaganza continues every day until Sunday, at Victoria Common (behind Northfield Shopping Centre), from 10am - 4pm.Did you get a pic with Sid today? We’d love to see them - share your photos in the comments!#stoploansharksengland#StopLoanSharks#NorthfieldBeach ... See MoreSee Less

What is a loan shark?

If you can answer yes to one or more of these questions you might be borrowing from a loan shark:

  • Did they offer you a quick loan?
  • Did they appear to be a friend at first, but now you're not so sure?
  • Did they say there was no need for any paperwork?
  • Did they add extra charges or huge amounts of interest to your loan?
  • Have they threatened you?
  • Are you scared of people finding out?
  • Have they taken your bank card, benefit card, passport, or other valuables from you?

What happens after you report?

We will be with you at every step of the way. Our investigators work alongside our Liaise Officers. They will get you the one to one support you need.

After you report our investigators take the information you give us and start to gather a case against the illegal lender

How we help

Stop Loan Sharks investigate, prosecute and put loan sharks in prison. We are the only organisation in England who have the power to stop loan sharks and illegal money lenders.

Since 2004, we have supported over 32,500 people to get safely away from loan sharks.
