Loan Shark awareness is taking centre stage at schools across Sandwell in a new project.An interactive play called Too Good to Be True is being delivered by Crave Arts to help Year 5 and 6 pupils understand what loan sharks are and why they're dangerous.The project has been funded by Stop Loan Sharks using money seized from convicted loan sharks under Proceeds of Crime Act legislation.As part of the project, pupils will also create their own awareness posters, with prizes up for grabs for the best designs. A huge thank you to Crave Arts for bringing this important message to life in a fun, engaging and memorable way. It was great to attend StepChange Debt Charity's Connected 2026 event yesterday and spend time with the incredible team we work alongside.We have built a strong partnership with StepChange to help identify and support people who may have borrowed from loan sharks. Through this collaboration, we've been able to reach individuals who might otherwise never have come forward.We know that sometimes borrowers do not initially realise they are dealing with a loan shark. Illegal lenders often present themselves as a friend, or someone simply doing them a favour, making it difficult for people to recognise the risks and seek help.Thanks to the dedication and support of StepChange staff, we've been able to better understand these barriers to reporting and ensure more people can access the help and support they need.It's been a fantastic collaboration and we're grateful for the commitment StepChange continues to show in helping protect vulnerable people from illegal lending.Thank you for having us along!
